Research suggests that the coronavirus crisis will cause a £6.4 billion loss of income for charities over the next six months, just as demand for extra services are needed more than ever. Smaller local charities are especially exposed to the crisis with studies suggesting two-thirds have had to make significant cuts to services.
The loss of income and increase in need is not the only way charities have been affected. With the sudden shift of employees required to work from home, charities have struggled to cover the costs of supplying IT equipment for their team to work remotely effectively.

Harrogate and District Community Action
HADCA (Harrogate and District Community Action) is a local charity with a focus on helping older and vulnerable people in the Harrogate area. Their HELP (Harrogate Easier Living Project) services support these people by collecting prescriptions, carrying out shopping and giving regular befriending phone calls.
A big part of their work also includes connecting people to local sources of support including charities such as Mind, citizen’s advice, food agencies and the appropriate council. They also host an online volunteering directory, a ‘Where to turn’ directory and keep community organisations informed about relevant news and grants.

Intelligent Servers donates laptops to HADCA
HADCA put out an appeal for laptops for their employees who are now working from home. Intelligent Server’s finance director saw the appeal through a friend who works at the charity and knew we could help! Intelligent Servers quickly organised some of the Lenovo ThinkPad laptops we had in stock for HELP’s Chief Executive Frances to come and collect.
“On behalf of all our clients, volunteers and staff at HADCA we would like to thank Intelligent Servers for the very generous donation of four laptops to support our work.”
“In line with government guidance, our small team is now working from home. This provides an immense challenge in terms of IT as we simply do not have enough laptops for our staff. Your amazing donation means we now have fit-for-purpose laptops to replace the very old ones some of our staff have been struggling on with. This will facilitate more efficient home working and help us support the increasing number of people turning to us.”
“As we don’t receive funding for any equipment, your donation will make a tremendous difference to our work. Thank you again.” – Frances Elliot, CEO of Harrogate and Direct Community Action
