Why Nimble users are moving to HPE Alletra 6000.

Tracking Refurbished IT Hardware prices

If you’re currently running HPE Nimble Storage, you’re probably starting to think about long-term platform strategy - particularly around support lifecycle, operational simplicity, and future scalability.

For many existing Nimble customers, HPE Alletra 6000 is the natural next step. Because Alletra keeps much of what IT teams already value about Nimble: simple management, InfoSight-driven analytics, predictable performance, and straightforward day-to-day operations.

We’ve seen a growing number of organisations evaluating Alletra 6000 as part of their refresh planning. Here are some of the main reasons why.

The Alletra 6000 is your Nimble, with faster silicon.

Same CASL architecture, same NimbleOS lineage, same InfoSight portal, same Peer Persistence, same CLI. HPE groups them together in nearly all current documentation for a reason. For a refresh, this matters: your team’s existing Nimble knowledge transfers directly, runbooks barely change, and the migration is one of the few in enterprise storage where “drop-in replacement” isn’t marketing fluff. It also means refurb risk is lower than on an unfamiliar platform - you already know what good looks like.

Peer Persistence between your Nimble and a refurb Alletra 6000 is the cleanest cutover.

HPE supports synchronous replication between Nimble and Alletra 6000 arrays with automatic switchover and a true RPO of zero. Group size for synchronous configurations is exactly two arrays - so the topology is: existing Nimble plus refurb Alletra, replicate, switch, decommission. That works.

Your inter-site link needs to support it.

10GbE between sites, ≤5ms RTT for group traffic, ≤250ms to the Witness (source). For a single-site cutover this is irrelevant, but if your Nimble is at a DR site and the Alletra is going into prod, check your link before assuming sync is on the table.

Refurb often gets you a tier up at the same money

Refurbished IT hardware offers significant cost savings over new equipment, faster availability, and comparable performance for many enterprise workloads. It’s also a more sustainable choice, helping organisations reduce e-waste, lower the environmental impact of IT procurement, and contribute towards wider sustainability and ESG objectives by extending the usable life of enterprise technology.

The Bottom Line

Refurbished HPE Alletra 6000 systems give organisations a practical way to modernise existing Nimble environments with minimal operational disruption, while benefiting from improved scalability, continued InfoSight-driven management, and lower acquisition costs. They also provide a more sustainable approach to infrastructure refresh, extending the lifecycle of enterprise hardware while reducing the overall cost of storage modernisation.
